Mojo Monday 234 - The Open Sea

Two Mojo Monday sketches in one week!
Today's sketch is by hostess Julee Tilman...

I decided to go with the square card again this time.  I need
several masculine cards this month and somehow I think
square is a little more manly than round.

I used a great masculine stamp set, The Open Sea, for this card.

Stamps:  The Open Sea and Pursuit of Happiness
Inks:  Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso, Night of Navy Classic Inks
Paper:  Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso, Night of Navy and Very Vanilla Card Stock and Regal DSP Stack
Accessories:  1-1/4" Square Punch, 1-3/8" Square Punch and Stamping Sponges

Mojo Monday 233 - Little Friends

I was under the weather last week and completely unmotivated to do anything, even stamp.  I started a card for Mojo Monday sketch 233 but did not get it finished by the time the linky closed yesterday.  As I already started the card I figured I would finish it and share it with you today.

I absolutely love this stamp set!  The images are just so adorable!
I misplaced my Blush Blossom Stampin' Write Marker so the
little girls are extremely pale on this one!

Stamps:  Little Friends
Inks:  Black Stazon, Island Indigo, Pool Party, Rich Razzleberry
and So Saffron Stampin' Write Markers
Paper:  Island Indigo, Rich Razzleberry and Whisper White
Card Stock and Sweet Shop SDSP
Accessories:  Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch, Scallop Edge Border Punch, Modern Label Punch, Word Window Punch,
2011-2013 In-Color Brads

Birthday Card For My Sister

My sister is a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator in Australia so when it comes time to send her a card, in this case for her birthday, I want to make sure it is something awesome!

I found a great tutorial for a 3-tiered card by Cathy Williams.
With the exception of the corduroy button copied it exactly.
Each tier slides into the one below so this card fits into a
regular envelope for mailing.

Stamps:  Bordering on Romance and A Word for You
Inks:  Early Espresso Classic Ink and Baja Breeze, Pear Pizzazz,
Regal Rose and So Saffron Stampin' Write Markers
Paper:  Baja Breeze, Regal Rose, So Saffron and
Very Vanilla Card Stock
Accessories:  Round Tab Punch and Corduroy Button (retired)

Isn't it beautiful?  I can say this as I found this card on
Vicki Burdick's blog and copied it.  I just loved it and thought it
would be perfect for such an occasion.  This is the first time
I have tried water colouring...anything!  It uses the Bordering Romance stamp set, Twitterpated DSP and the gorgeous pleated satin ribbon, all from the 2012 Occasions Mini Catalogue.

Stamps:  Bordering on Romance and Happiest Birthday Wishes
Inks:  Baja Breeze, Blushing Bride, Pear Pizzazz,
Riding Hood Red and So Saffron

Welcome To The First Day Of Spring...

but with the thermometer reaching 23 degrees Celsius,
it already feels like summer!  Today I am sharing a card using the sketch 247 from Stamping 411 and the colour challenge 193 from Create with Connie & Mary

I had a difficult time figuring out what to do for the focal image for this card.  Finally after trying several different elements, I decided to pretty much stick to the original sketch design...

Stamps:  Extreme Elements
Inks:  Lucky Limeade Classic Ink
Paper:  Lucky Limeade, Peach Parfait, Pool Party and
Very Vanilla Card Stock and Everyday Enchantment DSP
Accessories:  Big Shot, Framed Tulips Embossing Folder, Beautiful Wings Embosslit Die, Modern Label Punch, Large Oval Punch,
Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack, Basic Pearls Jewels

Sympathy Card

My sister-in-law and her family had to make the difficult
decision to put their cat Tim down last Friday.  A very sad day
for their family.  I used the sketch from Pals Paper Arts
to help me create a sympathy card for their loss.

I used Basic Gray and So Saffron as my main colour anchored with a Basic Black card base.  I wanted the cat to be stand alone but the image looked a little lost so I added a bit of colour around the edges using a sponge and Basic Gray ink.

Stamps:  C is for Cat
Inks:  Basic Gray and So Saffron Classic Inks
Paper:  Basic Black, Basic Gray, So Saffron
 and Very Vanilla Card Stock
Accessories:  Scallop Border Punch, Paper Piercing Tool,
Mat Pack and Rhinestones Jewels

Freshly Made Sketches #26 and Stampin' Royalty #115 - The Open Sea

Okay, colour challenges are still intimidate for me!  I have
decided the best way to get around that is to combine a colour challenge with a sketch challenge.  Today I have used Jen Mitchell's sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches and the colour challenge over at Stampin' Royalty!

When I saw this week's sketch I immediately thought of the manifest stamp from The Open Sea.  Oh my goodness, am I creating a masculine card?  But what about the Perfect Plum on a guy card?
Well I made it work...and well I think!

I wanted to use the baker's twine on this card but when I tried the early espresso it was too dark and the white was too stark.  What to do, what to do.  Dye the white baker's twine of course!  I placed a length in a container with a small amount of water and a few drops of Soft Suede Classic Ink Refill, let it sit to absorb the colour, let it dry and
 ta-dah, Soft Suede Baker's Twine!

Stamps:  Fabulous Phrases and The Open Sea,
Inks:  Marina Mist Classic Ink and Soft Suede Classic Inks and
Soft Suede Classic Ink Refill
Paper:  Perfect Plum, Sahara Sand and Soft Suede Card Stock
Accessories:  Big Shot, Square Lattice Embossing Folder, Modern Label Punch, Punch Windows Movers & Shapers, Silver Brads, Stamping Sponges, White Baker's Twine

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Stamping!

SUO Challenge #40 - Plant Hope

The Artful*Inkers weekly challenge is to use as many
different colours of green on a card.  This also ties in with the
challenge over at SU-Only.

I used all 7 Stampin' Up! greens on this card!
There was a lot of card stock, DSP and ribbon spread all over my
desk during the making of this card.  I finally got the order of things
narrowed down and it actually came together quite quickly.

Stamps:  Plant Hope
Inks:  Always Artichoke Classic Ink
Paper:  Certainly Celery, Garden Green, Pear Pizzazz and Wild Wasabi and 2011-2013 DSP Stack (Lucky Limeade)
Accessories:  Big Shot, Designer Frames Embossing Folder,
Old Olive 5/8" Satin Ribbon

Stamping 411 Meets Hand Stamped Sentiments - Up, Up & Away

I found a colour challenge over at Hand Stamped Sentiments and decided to use those colours with the Stamping 411

I thought I was going to have a tough time fitting all six colours of the rainbow into one card but with some layering and small punches I was able to get them all represented!

When I had the card all put together and was looking at it there was something wrong.  It took me a minute to realize that the "grass" layers did not stand out enough.  I removed the pieces and sponged the edges and when I reattached them I like it much better.

Stamps:  Up, Up & Away
Inks:  Lucky Limeade, Real Red and Pacific Point Classic Inks
Paper:  Daffodil Delight, Elegant Eggplant, Lucky Limeade, Pacific Point, Pumpkin Pie and Whisper White Card Stock
Accessories:  1/1-4 Circle Punch, 1-3/8" Circle Punch, Owl Builder Punch, Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack, Big Shot, Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, Real Red 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon, Stamping Sponges

Array of Sunshine

Once again I have created a card using two different challenges.
I am using the sketch from Mojo Monday #232 and the Colour Challenge #86 from The Paper Players.

I have had the hostess set Array of Sunshine for a while and admired many cards made with this set but have never used it yet (it is going to retire May 31, 2012!).

I thought the large flower would make a great layered look for my card.  I was able to make the bow easily using the brad to secure the loops so there was no tying required!

Stamps:  Array of Sunshine, Create a Cupcake
Inks:  Pear Pizzazz, Pool Party and Wisteria Wonder Classic Inks
Paper:  Crumb Cake, Pear Pizzazz and Pool Party Card Stock and Sweet Shop Specialty Designer Series Paper
Accessories:  Pool Party 3/8" Ruffled Ribbon, 2011-2013 In Color Designer Printed Brads

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Stamping!

Lots of Birthdays

There are a lot of birthdays on my calendar at the end of March so I decided to make the same card but change up the colours.  I saw this card on Pinterest and thought it was super cute and would be a pretty quick card to make.

The centerpiece of this card is very simple to make.  Start with a piece of DSP that is 4" square and fold it in half in each direction.  Then fold each corner to the centre point of the folds.  Next fold the corners (from the centre) back to the outer edge.  Add a 1-1/4" stamped image to a 1-3/8 punch piece of card stock and add it to the centre!  Gosh I hope that makes sense...

Stamps:  Fresh Vintage and Curly Cute
Inks:  Blushing Bride, Concord Crush and Pear Pizzazz
Paper:  Blushing Bride, Concord Crush, Pear Pizzazz and Whisper White Card Stock and In Color DSP Pack (Level 1 Hostess - Retired)
Accessories: Big Shot, Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, 1-1/4" Square Punch and Scallop Square Punch

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Stamping!

Stamping Queens Sketch Challenge #29 - Twitterpated

Here is another sketch from the Stamping Queens!

and here is what I came up with...

When I saw the Twitterpated Designer Buttons in the 2012 Occasions Mini Catalogue I thought they were so cute!    I cut thin slivers of card stock and threaded them through each button and attached them with a glue dot.  It took a bit of extra time and was quite fiddly but I like how the overall effect turned out.

Stamps:  Happiest Birthday Wishes
Inks:  Baja Breeze Classic Ink
Paper:  Baja Breeze, Blushing Bride and Whisper White Card Stock
Accessories:  Big Shot, Framed Tulips Embossing Folder, 3/4" Circle Punch, 1/2" Circle Punch, Twitterpated Designer Buttons

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Stamping!

honoured that the Operators picked my card and
I just needed to share my excitement with you!

Freshly Made Sketches #25

It is time for another challenge from Freshly Made Sketches.
This weeks's hostess is Linda Callahan.

I have a lot of DSP, all of which will likely retire the end of May.
I decided that I would try and use up as much of it as I can instead of
hoarding it all in case I might want to use it one day (am I alone in my paper hoarding?).  I also want to try to use up the 2010-2012 In Color ribbons as they too will be retiring at the end of May.

I wanted to keep this card very clean so I did nothing to the card base before I added the sketch elements.  For such a simple card I seemed to use a lot of different products!

Stamps:  Create a Cupcake and Pennant Parade
Inks:  Early Espresso, Peach Parfait and So Saffron Classic Inks
Paper:  Peach Parfait, So Saffron and Very Vanilla Card Stock and
Just Add Cake DSP
Accessories:  Peach Parfait 1/2" Stitched-Poly Ribbon,
Cupcake Builder Punch, Petite Pennants Builder Punch,
1-1/4" Circle Punch, 1" Circle Punch

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Stamping!

Mojo Monday #231 - D is for Dog

It's time for another sketch over at Mojo Monday.  This week's sketch is designed by Julie Tilman.

Looking at this sketch, I had no idea where to start  so I decided to start by picking ribbon for my card.  I am not sure if ribbon is a common place to start gathering ideas for a card but it worked for me!  Once I picked the Poppy Parade ribbon, I went to the 2011-2012 Idea Book & Catalogue and found out which DSP had Poppy Parade in it.

My favorite part of this card are the paw prints.  The stamp set has a paw print in it but it is too big for the card.  As I looked at the stamp I saw an upside down heart with 4 circles around the top and all of the sudden I thought of the Owl Builder Punch.  The heart and dots were just the right size!

Stamps:  D is for Dog
Inks:  Soft Suede Classic Ink
Paper:  Not Quite Navy and So Saffron Card Stock and
Pocketful of Posies DSP
Accessories:  Big Shot, Scallop Circle #2 Die, Owl Builder Punch, Scallop Oval Punch, Large Oval Punch, 3/16" Corner Punch, Poppy Parade 1/2" Stitched-Poly Ribbon

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Stamping!

Stamping 411 Saturday Sketch Challenge #245 - Fabulous Florets

I have been looking at this sketch from Stampin 411 since Saturday and freaking out a bit to be honest.  I know if I'm freaking out why participate?  Well, one, I have been having a ton of fun working with all the different challenges and two, I'm not gonna let a little picture intimidate me...*smile*!

It looks so challenging I didn't think I would be able to come
up with anything.  I started looking through all the current
DSP and things started to take shape.  I got to the ribbon and
stopped dead in my tracks...all the ribbon I own and I had
nothing that would work on this card.  Panic set in for a
moment and then it dawned on me I could dye my ribbon!
That's right, I took a length of Whisper White 3/8" Taffeta
Ribbon and ran my Tangerine Tango Stampin' Write Marker
over it and let it dry.  Ta-dah!  Ribbon for my card.

Stamps:  Fabulous Florets and Pursuit of Happiness
Inks:  Tangerine Tango and Wild Wasabi Classic Ink and
Tangerine Tango Stampin' Write Marker
Paper:  Daffodil Delight, Tangerine Tango, Whisper White and
Wild Wasabi Card Stock
Accessories:  Whisper White 3/8" Taffeta Ribbon, Scallop Trim Border Punch, 1-3/4" Scallop Circle Punch, 1-3/8" Circle Punch, Big Shot,
Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder

Sympathy for a Friend

My upline and leader of the Artful*Inkers, Donna, lost her Dad to cancer on Saturday.  What a sad day for her and her family.

When I realized I didn't have any stamps with sympathy sentiments,
I opened up My Digital Studio (MDS) and used an oldie but a goodie,
Thoughts & Prayers.  I really am going to have to order this set.
I have not played with MDS very much so I decided in the interest of
time, I would create a hybrid card.  I created my card front, saved it as a JPEG and printed it out on my home printer, then added it to a card base.

Stamps:  Thoughts & Prayers (digital)
Inks:  Soft Suede (digital)
Papers:  Soft Suede and Very Vanilla Card Stock
Everyday Enchantment DSP (digital)

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Stamping!

Mojo Monday #230 - Outlined Occasions

I decided to try my hand using the sketch over at Mojo Monday.

We were challenge to a non-traditional sized card -
round or square or both if we were so inspired.
While I was inspired by the round card, I was not ready to
take the challenge just yet!

I chose a square card using my favorite colour, purple.
When I saw the sketch I immediately thought of using the
Floral Fusion Sizzlit Die for the flower accent.  I sponged the
edges of each layer with Concord Crush Classic Ink to
add some depth before I layered them.  I used the
Blossom Petal Builder Punch for the leaves, which I
sponged with Pear Pizzazz Classic Ink.  It is hard to see
in the photo, but I also scored 1/8" around the Blushing Bride
layer just to add some interest.

Stamps:  Outlined Expressions
Inks:  Concord Crush Classic Ink
Paper:  Blushing Bride, Concord Crush, Pear Pizzazz,
Whisper White and Wisteria Wonder Card Stock
Accessories:  Big Shot, Floral Fusion Sizzlit Die, Adorning Accents Edgelit Die, Adorning Accents Embossing Folder, Simply Scored,
Pear Pizzazz 3/8" Pleated Satin Ribbon, Basic Rhinestone Jewels

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Stamping!

Whoo Hoo - Two Challenges, One Card!!!

Well I am getting very daring in this world of card challenges...
I have made one card and it works for two challenges!!!

The sketch I used is from Rita Wright, this week's hostess over at
Rita suggested this simple yet versatile sketch would be an
excellent opportunity to show off some designer papers,
background stamps or embossing folders.

Well I got two outta three on this card!
I decided to turn the sketch and use the colour scheme
from the  colour challenge #130 over at Pals Paper Arts.

I decided to use Soft Suede as my third colour choice and
I quite like the result.  This card might even qualify as a masculine card, something I usually find difficult to come up with.

Stamps: Language of Friendship and Woodgrain
Inks:  Always Artichoke and Soft Suede Classic Ink
Papers:  Always Artichoke, Lucky Limeade, Naturals White,
and Soft Suede Card Stock
Accessories:  Big Shot, Square Lattice Embossing Folders,
Bird Builder Punch

You can earn the Language of Friendship stamp set for
FREE with a $60 product purchase during Sale-a-bration.
Please visit my online store to place your order now!

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Stamping!
